About Paul Culshaw
Hello everyone! My name is Paul Culshaw and I’m a second year PhD Humanities student at the University of Brighton. My research is in Creative Writing and Queer Studies and is focussed contemporary British drag queens working in the profession from 2006 to 2021. I am using an autoethnographic method to inform a creative novel that confronts the under-representation of drag queens in contemporary literature and seeks to celebrate drag lives. I also lecture Film Studies and I am a proud film geek! Other research interests include male body image in relation to social media and beauty conventions in gay/queer culture. Aside from research I love to read, watch films, go to karaoke nights, write, do self-development courses (whether they be books or online) and I also love to empower others. I think empowerment of others is my ‘why’ on this planet. I’m also a very keen Actor, Writer, Poet, Singer and was a multi-genre nightclub DJ for 13 years (hence the passion for music!) and currently enjoying an extended hiatus from that. I’d also like to think of myself as a keen activist for mental health and invisible illnesses and disabilities. If you’d like to get in touch my email is p.culshaw@brighton.ac.uk and I’m also on Twitter @PaulCulshaw1983
